How It Works

Why Buddy Check On Me?

Buddy Check On Me was created as a low‑cost, flexible way to stay connected with your buddies when you’re doing an activity. Many alternatives are tied to expensive hardware or ongoing subscriptions. With Buddy Check On Me, all you need is your phone. Using simple SMS notifications, you and your buddies can keep each other informed without complicated devices or hidden fees.

How Tokens Work

• Start with 150 tokens for $0.99 USD.
• Each activity you begin costs 1 token.
• For each buddy, 25 tokens are reserved:
• Covers up to 6 SMS alerts — one when your timer first expires, plus up to 5 follow‑up notices (5, 10, 20, 40, and 80 minutes).
• You or your buddy can stop these extra notices at any time by wrapping up the activity or by your buddy acknowledging the alert.
• If you stop or cancel the timer before it expires, the reserved tokens are refunded automatically.
• Example: with 1 buddy, you can start 125 activities before you need more tokens — enough for about 2 activities per week for a year.
• When you need more, tokens are available in two packs:
• 100 tokens for $0.99
• 1000 tokens for $4.99 (best value)
• Tokens expire after 1 year, so you only buy what you’ll use.

Works Even If Your Phone Doesn’t

Once you start a timer, our backend keeps it running even if your phone battery dies, or you pass through an area with no reception. When you’re back in range, the app syncs automatically.

If you’ve enabled location sharing, the app updates your position whenever it regains a signal, leaving a breadcrumb trail for your buddies. This way, everyone stays informed — even in places with patchy coverage.
